“Women are the real architects of society.”
International Women’s Day is being celebrated throughout the world on 8th March 2022, with the theme “Gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow, #BreaktheBias
On this occasion, I would like to extend my heartiest greetings, to women across the world and the State. It is an occasion for us to renew our resolve to encourage women to achieve their rightful place in Society. The day marks a call for action to accelerate policy and programmes for Women Empowerment as they play a vital role in the development of family, community, society, and nation.
Women play an important role in our lives not just as mothers, sisters, and daughters, but as building blocks of our society. The value of women’s participation in economic, political, and social works and the equal contribution of men and women is a sign of a strong nation. Every policy of the Government is women-centric ensuring gender equality and empowerment and the achievements of the Sikkimese women globally re-enforces this vision & policy of inclusive governance. To further improve the quality of life for our women, we have recently announced the conception of schemes like Aama and Bahini.
The creation of The Women & Child Development Department vide Notification No. 75/Home/202, Dated 22.10.2021 is an endeavour of the state government to prioritize and secure women in every sector of development, be it industry & entrepreneurship, socio, cultural, welfare sector, infrastructure, local self-governance, administration, education, environment, etc.
My Government reaffirms its commitment to the continuous upliftment of women and I appeal to one and all to re-dedicate and contribute to this mission of the Government sincerely.
